Fast Times...
Friday we began what has turned into our annual Daniel Fast. It's where we eat fruits, vegetables and water for 3 weeks. Now, we do show a little grace with regards to the diet (ie. some eat nuts and seeds in addition to) during the fast but by and large the idea is to simplify our lives in such a way as to be able to spend more time in prayer. By limiting what we eat we do two things; we cut out time spent in preparing meals and we create an environment to draw closer to God and be more sensitive to His prompting in our lives. From a physical standpoint, it allows us to break from the cravings of the junk we normally eat by focusing only on eating fruits and veggies as well as a few other things like nuts and beans. Basically, we cut out most if not all grains and meats and processed foods. Again, we do show a little grace as each person has different lifestyles and dietary issues. The important thing is to remain true to the spirit of the fast.
